Behind the label: what’s actually in the Glow Reset Toner.
One of the things I wish more skincare conversations did was explain why an ingredient is in a formula, rather than only debating whether that ingredient is good or bad.
So I want to do something most brands avoid: walk you through everything in one of our products, including the parts that look confusing.
This is the full ingredient list for the Glow Reset Toner, and what each part is actually doing.
The Base
Aqua (Water). The foundation of this water-based formula, and the solvent that allows the water-soluble ingredients to work together.
Rosa Damascena Flower Water. Rose flower water replaces part of the water content, contributing water-soluble compounds and a more sensorial experience rather than being included for the name.
Hydration
Propanediol and Glycerin. Both are humectants, ingredients that attract and help retain water in the skin. They also contribute to how the formula feels and performs.
Beta-Glucan. A humectant and skin-conditioning ingredient that supports hydration and a healthy-feeling barrier.
Sodium Hyaluronate. The sodium salt of hyaluronic acid. It binds water and supports a hydrated, plumper-looking complexion.
Panthenol. A provitamin of B5 that supports hydration and skin comfort.
Barrier and Tone
Niacinamide, at 4%. This is the key functional ingredient in the formula, and the concentration is deliberate. Not a token inclusion chosen to look good on a label, but a working level, used to support the skin barrier and improve the appearance of uneven tone.
Licorice Root Extract. A significant botanical in this formula, particularly relevant to our focus on uneven-looking skin tone and complexion care.
Dipotassium Glycyrrhizinate. Also derived from licorice, included for its soothing properties.
Antioxidant Support
Green Tea Extract. Chosen for its polyphenol content and antioxidant properties. We have also looked more closely at how green tea compares with another well-known antioxidant in our comparison of Vitamin C and Green Tea for skin.
Pomegranate Extract. Another botanical antioxidant, complementing the formula’s focus on supporting healthy-looking skin.
Soothing
Allantoin. Included for its soothing and skin-conditioning properties.
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder. A concentrated form of aloe, included for skin conditioning and soothing.
Preservation, and the Part That Looks Like a Mistake
This is the section people overlook, and it is where the confusion lives. So let me be direct about it.
Benzyl Alcohol, Salicylic Acid, Glycerin and Sorbic Acid. These are components of the preservative system.
Two things worth knowing here.
First, the salicylic acid in this formula is part of the preservative system. It is not included as a dedicated exfoliating active. If you were expecting BHA exfoliation from this toner, that is not what the formula does, and I would rather say so plainly than let an ingredient list imply something it doesn’t deliver.
Second, you will notice glycerin appears twice on the list. That is not padding. Preservatives often come as pre-blended systems, and their constituents must be listed individually rather than by trade name. So a single preservative blend can appear as several separate entries, and anything shared, like glycerin, shows up more than once.
A beautiful formula that becomes contaminated is not a beautiful formula. Preservation is not an afterthought in a water-based product. It is a requirement.
The Parts Nobody Markets
Arginine. An amino acid used for skin conditioning, and also as part of the formula’s pH-adjustment system.
Polyglyceryl-6 Caprylate/Caprate. A solubiliser, which allows ingredients that would otherwise separate to stay evenly distributed.
Sodium Phytate. A chelating agent that binds trace metal ions and supports formula stability.
Nobody puts these on the front of a bottle. Every stable formula needs them.
What the Formula Is Actually Built To Do
Looked at as a whole, this isn’t a collection of trending ingredients. It’s a formulation built around several jobs at once:
Hydrate. Support the barrier. Soothe. Support even-looking tone. Provide antioxidant support. Preserve the formula. And keep the product stable and pleasant enough to use consistently.
The Glow Reset Toner is also the first step in our three-step Glow Reset System, where it is followed by the Complexion Tonic Serum and Fade Face Oil.
That last one matters more than it sounds. A product that isn’t comfortable to use doesn’t get used, and a product that doesn’t get used does nothing.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Glow Reset Toner contain salicylic acid?
Yes, but not as a dedicated exfoliating active. The salicylic acid is part of the preservative system used in the formula. This is a hydrating and soothing toner rather than a BHA exfoliating toner.
Is Glow Reset Toner an exfoliating toner?
No. It was not formulated as an exfoliating toner. Its primary formulation goals are hydration, barrier support, soothing and even-looking tone.
Why does glycerin appear twice in the Glow Reset Toner’s ingredient list?
Glycerin appears twice on the ingredient list. That isn’t something we added to pad the formula. Geogard ECT, the preservation system we use, contains glycerin among its own components, which is why glycerin appears again when the components of that system are declared individually.
What percentage of niacinamide is in Glow Reset Toner?
4%.
Is Glow Reset Toner suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes. Glow Reset Toner was formulated with melanin-rich skin in mind, particularly the need for barrier-conscious complexion care and support for a more even-looking tone. As with any skincare product, individual tolerance varies.
Can I use Glow Reset Toner every day?
Yes. Glow Reset Toner was designed for regular use. Apply after cleansing and follow with your serum and moisturiser or face oil. In the morning, finish with broad-spectrum sunscreen.
A Good Formula Isn’t the Longest One
A good formula isn’t the one with the longest ingredient list. It’s the one where the ingredients make sense together.
As a formulator, that’s the question I ask before adding anything: what job does this ingredient need to do, and does the formula actually need it?
That is where formulation becomes more than putting good ingredients into a bottle.
